the greens

So in preparation of summer, we have been
fixing up the back yard. My dog did a number
on my yard in the past 10 months. we had
no grass left from all the digging , lots of
trees were chewed down to stubs, basically it
looked like a battlefield.
Every year, we usually put down new sod
but this time we did something a little different...
do you notice anything unusual in these pictures?
no? good. That is synthetic grass you see!
yes, I spent months deciding and choosing
which one to have installed.
I can not tell you how happy I am and
I wish we did this sooner!
I swear it looks real and the benefits are
less water consumption, no yellow pee stains
from the dogs (even though I am keeping them
off it) and it stays that vibrant green all year.
It does get a little warm in the sun so I just ordered
2 new umbrellas for the back yard, but if it gets too hot you can
just run the hose over it for a few seconds and it
totally cools off. I ordered it from Home Depot,
but first I ordered the sample kit so I could see
which one worked the best. The final product was delivered
to my house and my wonderful gardener installed
it. Very, very easy. I would recommend it
to anyone who has pets and not a big back yard.
I am noticing more and more people installing
synthetic grass, and now I know why!

  1. So, now I wonder...
    > will it get hot?.. how hot?
    > will it get eaten by the dogs?
    > will it get dug up by the dogs?

It looks grand. Keep me posted.
    Cheers!

  3. I'm curious, did you order the sample box from Home Depot to help you pick, and which did you end up picking? We are very water conscious so never really water our lawn in the summer (after reading "Cadillac Desert" it makes me too guilty), but my son would love a green sports practicing spot!

  4. Tia- it looks amazing. We have friends here in DC that did it years ago and LOVE it. You'll be quite happy with it.

  5. It really looks amazing!! I've noticed turf being used more and more as well- even just saw Martyn Lawrence Bullard use it on Sharon Osbourne's place in Million Dollar Decorators!! Your pics convinced me to at least order the sample kit. We have zero grass in our backyard, so maybe this will work!
Thanks Tia. Love your blog btw; )
