This is our dog Cassius. Yes, named after the greatest...
Cassius Clay. We rescued him Valentines Day this year
after we had to put two of our old dogs to sleep.
He is the sweetest little lover but so destructive, but he is only
one years old.
My back yard is trashed. He has dug up holes everywhere,
chewed every piece of outdoor furniture, chewed every sunbrella pillow, and
even the corners of my beautiful wood teak tables. Along the pool,
we had this beautiful hedge and he chewed it down so now there is just stubs.
There is no grass left in my back yard, just dirt.
I know it is because he is bored. I just can't walk him EVERY DAY! We have another
dog and they play together all day, wrestle, and run free, and the girls love them and
play with them a lot so I know he is getting some entertainment.
Last week, while we were at Disneyland for the day, Cassius figured out how to
jump up on my husbands office door, push down the lever and let himself in.
Well....when we got home, all my husbands work papers were chewed in a million
pieces and scattered all over the back yard.
My husband had a tantrum, yes, like the ones 4 year olds have.
If you can imagine the curse words that came out of him, i heard phrases
i didn't know were even possible.
So, we have a dog trainer coming today...and tomorrow.
And we might have to make a extra room for this trainer to
come live with us.
Oh lordy, good luck with that. I feel your pain. Our dog caused some serious damage as a pup. Thankfully he outgrew the mayhem.
ReplyDeleteOn an unrelated note, your rug is beautiful and thankfully Cassius doesn't seem to have a taste for gorgeous pink textiles. ;0)
I also feel for you...our Weimaraner, Penny, chewed up tv remotes, furniture legs, floppy disks(yes...I CAN imagine what words your hubby used!!)and kids toys...I've heard if you bury dogs own poop in the holes they've dug, they will stop digging...PERIOD! Hope that works for you...my heart breaks thinking of your beautiful yard torn up...but if he outgrows it like our dog did, it will be worth the damage...she died many years ago, and we still have her picture in the family room...and miss her more than we ever thought you could miss a dog!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness!!! Well, I hope Cassius learns to curb his chew fetish!! He's just so darn cute!!
ReplyDeleteI know how you feel- one evening my husband and I went for a walk, forgetting that one door was left only closed by a screen. We returned to open the front door and find two dalmations happily greeting us! They broke through the screen, chased the cat on everything practically in the house, the inside was thrashed, chewed and broken, I used a flashlight to pick up our chewed up shoes, some torn clothes, throw pillows, etc. that were all over the backyard! Don't remember if there were swear words used, but I cried for the rest of the night as we cleaned up! My one dalmation lived 14 years, the other needed to leave- too mischievious! She jumped in our gardener's front seat of his work truck and lived many happy years with our gardener! Best of luck to you! :)

Oh no! We have a rescue, that sounds like Cassius' twin, and looks like him too. His name is Merle, and he used to destroy just about everything in the back yard (and inside, if we ever leave him in long enough while we are away.) He eventually got over it, I believe it was a puppy thing. Good luck to your pup!
ReplyDeleteCan you hire a dog walker? Sounds like everyone would be happier, and its totally worth the money relative to the money spent on the destroyed items. Our dog walker saved our sanity and belongings!
ReplyDeletePS - he really is so adorable. :)
